PRESCHOOL MUSIC PROGRAM

The Pre School Music Program is a fun class for children ages 4 to 7 designed to teach the basics of music. All classes are limited to from 10 to 12 children per class, and classes are half an hour, once or twice a week. For the best result, we recommend twice a week. Our program covers the three basic foundations of music in great detail.

The classes cover:
  • Rhythm development
  • Coordination and concentration development
  • Melody
  • Learning to sing
  • Learning to listen
  • Making music with percussion instruments
  • Recognition of orchestral instruments

Here is a small excerpt of what they learn about each fundamental.

    Rhythm, coordination, and concentration:
Children are taught rhythm, coordination, and concentration through various methods including Orff based principals. Our activities involve developing an awareness of rhythm through movement games and singing games. We also use many percussion instruments such as drums, shakers, rhythm sticks, triangles, etc.

Melody: Many concepts designed to develop an awareness of melody are covered during the year. Children learn a huge number of songs. The development of the ear is stressed through imitative songs and activities.

Learning to listen: Children will watch musical videos, and listen to different styles of music on CD'S and live instruments.

Instrument recognition: Children are taught to recognize the various instruments in the orchestra, both by sound and by sight.

This program is not designed to push children toward any one instrument, but rather to give an overall foundation that will apply to the instrument of their choice, once they are old enough for instrumental instruction. Our goal is to help every child to develop a life-long love of music.
